María Arellano
María Arellano is an Ecuadorian-born visual artist, researcher and educator now based in London. Her practice weaves together art and intercultural education to envision societies that are equitable, inclusive and built upon compassion.
With a focus on themes of gender equity, interculturality and decoloniality, María invites viewers and participants into a space of critical reflection and meaningful dialogue. Her work spans participatory art, ethnographic inquiry and arts-based research, where she gently challenges assumptions and opens doors to new perspectives.
Textiles — especially weaving — lie at the heart of her visual language. Yet her creative world also embraces painting, music and performance, all converging around the conviction that art and education are potent tools for transformation.
