Las Witchas Collective
Las Witchas! Collective is a multidisciplinary group of migrant artists, born in London in 2022 with the purpose of cultivating and amplifying feminine -Earth- power from Abya Yala: diverse, vibrant and resilient. Through music, spoken word, performance, movement and visual arts, Las Witchas! is envisioned as a space for experimentation, creation and collective learning, where art becomes a tool for resistance, connection and social transformation.
Formed by artists from various territories of Abya Yala, Las Witchas! carry the living memory of their roots -woven from mountain, sea, maize and mango. Their work emerges from a deep desire to tell their own stories and those that have been silenced, to support one another across distances, and to remember, with strength and tenderness, where they come from.
At the heart of their artistic offering beats the drum. A sacred instrument, resonant body of the Earth, the drum has always been a guardian of collective memory. Reclaiming it through a feminine lens becomes a political and spiritual act: one of healing memory, reclaiming the right to be heard and leading the rhythms of celebration, resistance and ritual.
Their music fuses traditional drum-based rhythms from Abya Yala -such as cumbia, bullerengue, currulao, sangueo, and mapalé- with contemporary sounds, creating a sonic landscape full of colour and strength, deeply rooted in their heritage: a collective song to life, the Earth and freedom.
Las Witchas! have brought their art to stages such as Southbank Centre, FLAWA Festival, Tate Modern, Somerset House and Bruce Castle Museum, among others. More than a music group, they are a creative constellation pulsing with the rhythm of the drum, memory, resistance and the desire for transformation.
